Industry 4.0 & SCADA Integration
Getting existing instrumentation onto the network without replacing it.
Industry 4.0 usually arrives as a proposal to replace everything. It rarely needs to.
Most plants already have instruments that measure correctly; what they lack is a path from the instrument to somewhere the reading can be seen and stored. RS485 Modbus output covers that for new instruments. For meters already installed, a data logger collects from several at once and makes the data available centrally.
The cheapest useful step is almost never a new meter. It is getting the meter you already own onto the network.
Frequently asked questions
How do I connect existing flow meters to a SCADA system?
Most Accumax instruments provide RS485 Modbus output, which SCADA and PLC systems read directly. Where meters are already installed and lack that output, a data logger can collect from several meters and make the data available centrally.
Do I have to replace my instruments to get remote monitoring?
Usually not. A data logger or IoT device can sit alongside instruments already in service and transmit their readings, which is considerably cheaper than replacing working instrumentation to gain visibility.
